In many communities around the country, wildfire represents a serious threat to homes and other property.
But Congress is currently considering legislation that addresses this concern, the “Resilient Federal Forests Act of 2015.” The bill aims to improve forest health and protect federal forests from wildfire through a number of measures. These include allowing for more efficient removal of dead trees, both before and after a wildfire, and authorizing new sources of funds to support preventative efforts.
This week the Senate Agriculture Committee met to consider the bill, and the National Association of Realtors® showed its support with a letter to Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.).
NAR President Tom Salomone praised the legislation, telling the Senate Committee that the bill “will reduce catastrophic wildfires and bring relief to millions of Americans who own property and homes in and adjacent to forested areas.”
