SC Housing is pleased to announce the launch of the SC Homeowner Rescue Program (SC HRP), which will begin accepting applications on March 21, 2022.

The purpose of SC HRP is to prevent mortgage delinquencies and defaults, foreclosures, loss of utilities or home energy services, and displacement of homeowners who have experienced financial hardship after January 21, 2020 associated with the coronavirus pandemic.

Funds from SC HRP may be used for assistance with mortgage payments, homeowner’s insurance, utility payments, and other specified purposes.

Who Should Apply to SC HRP?
This program is for homeowners who:

  • Are behind on mortgage payments for a primary residence they own and occupy
  • Are behind on property taxes and utility bills for their primary residence of which they own and occupy
  • Have experienced financial hardship related to the COVID-19 pandemic that began on or continued after January 21, 2020, causing housing related financial challenges (note: income limits apply)

Eligible uses of funds in SC HRP:

  • Mortgage Payment Assistance
  • Payment Assistance for Delinquent Property Taxes
  • Mortgage Reinstatement
  • Payment Assistance for Down Payment Assistance Loans
  • Payment Assistance for Homeowner’s Utilities
  • Counseling, Educational Services, or Legal Services

To be eligible, the property must be the homeowner’s primary residence and must be located in the state of South Carolina. Co-borrowers are not permitted to separately apply for HAF Program assistance.
