Inspecting Radon Mitigation Systems
Presenter: Bruce Snead, Director of Engineering Extension at Kansas State University

Local building inspectors, raters and code officials in North Carolina have

often requested guidance on how to determine if a radon mitigation system has been

installed properly. This 30 minute presentation will provide an overview of how to

evaluate an existing radon mitigation system specifically for a single family dwelling.

North Carolina recommends evaluating a radon mitigation by utilizing the AARST-ANSI

Standards. Two checklists will be provided that can assist in evaluating a radon

mitigation system.

Guidance for Homeowners on Radon Systems

Presenter: Brian Hanson, Radon Program Coordinator, Kansas Radon Program

Radon mitigation systems have been installed in North Carolina homes since

the early 1990s. Unless properly maintained, many of those systems may not be

operating properly. Some elements of a radon mitigation system have limited

warranties. Homes with radon mitigation systems should still test every two years to

ensure the radon level is low. This 30 minute presentation is intended to inform a

homeowner of how they may evaluate their existing radon mitigation system.

Hope you will join us!
